About Me.
Macaulay “Mac” Aston-Nielsen is a multimedia artist living and working in Alameda, CA. Growing up as a “latchkey kid” in the suburban sprawl of Los Angeles, she was often left to explore the art that proliferated throughout the city. Enthralled by its ability to dissect and expose the inner facets of the human condition.
However, it wasn’t until her move to the Bay Area in 2020 when she started working with ceramics and creating three-dimensional pieces. Discovering the satisfaction of watching an artwork take form seemingly in an instant, Mac started exploring other materials as well.
Primarily using the mediums of clay and metal to create three-dimensional sculptures, Mac uses religious iconography as a vehicle to open conversations about femininity and the societal expectations of womanhood; exploring the impact and duplicity of these expectations that come wrapped up in beguiling ribbons and lace.
